Summary: This novel is about the nature of evil, set in a depressing time. It is in Salem, Massachusetts, when the witchcraft cases took place. The girl Lidda is bi-polar, which can become symptomatic at puberty. So she can have hallucinations. There may be a demon possessing her. When she observes the other Salem girls, she believes they are lying.
